Carols by Car Light

On Sunday 20th December Oundle Baptist Church were able to run a free to attend ‘drive-in’ cinema style carol service. In partnership with Waitrose Oundle (who provided car park, electricity, mince pies and lots of goodwill) we were able to run three screenings of our recorded service at 5pm, 6.30pm and 8pm.

All three screenings were fully booked at 48 cars each, but sadly due to the late changes to government guidelines we had a few no shows. In total over the three screenings we received 106 cars. Each vehicle received a Bluetooth speaker and a receiver to hear the sounds direct and the images were projected on a large 8 metre inflatable screen. Every vehicle received a goody bag containing festive treats, a ‘why Christmas’ booklet and a box of 6 Waitrose mince pies. For every vehicle that had children under the age of 11 a special ‘muddy church’ activity bag was included to give some festive fun for the families during the school holidays.

The event has been incredibly well received by the community, with many commenting on how well it was run and how good the quality of the production was. Many expressed their gratitude that we had been able to run the event and bring a bit of hope into some gloomy times.

This was a huge venture for us as a church, one we hadn’t even considered until September. We have never done anything like this before but wanted to do something to connect with the community around us. The church family fully supported the event in terms of finance and practical support.

We have posted the complete service to our You Tube channel for others to enjoy.
